Optimizing your Instagram Bio: REALTOR Edition

Instagram can be a great tool to help you expand your network, build authority in the industry and connect with potential clients. But to do those things, you have to tell the algorithm exactly who you are and who you want to connect with. There are many ways to do this, but for the purposes of this blog, we’ll specifically focus on your IG Bio Optimization.

Why do you need a strong bio?

I’m so glad you asked. You need a strong bio because it can greatly increase the likelihood of being found by a potential client. In fact, within a couple of weeks of a simple bio glow-up, my client, Sue, was found by an out-of-state buyer looking to relocate to Cleveland.

Ahhhh… the power of SEO 🤌

Here are my top tips for giving your bio a quick glow-up. Trust me… it’s time.

Instagram bio ideas

Upload an Inviting Headshot as Your Profile Picture

This can’t be your dog, your kid, or your logo. It has to be your face. We’re building relationships here and seeing your face helps your audience build trust. It gives them an anchor to this relationship.

Use Keywords in the “Name” Section of Your IG Bio

In addition to your name, be sure to include your location and the word REALTOR (but only if, in fact, you are a REALTOR)

Ex. Candice Morales | Las Vegas REALTOR

When you do this, you’re more likely to show up at the top of a search when someone is looking to connect with a REALTOR in your area. Don’t believe me? Try it. Search your area + REALTOR in the search bar and see who pops up. They likely pop up because they have their location in the name line or their handle.

Use keywords throughout your bio. If you specialize in helping first-time home buyers or luxury real estate, tell your audience that in your bio. This can help your audience determine if you’re the one for them.

Show Some Personality

Contrary to popular belief, your audience doesn’t always want to hear about real estate. They want to connect with you as a human. Share 1 or 2 personal things in your bio that your audience can expect to see in your content. It could be as simple as Coffee Aficionado ☕or Crossfit Life 🏋️

Include a Call to Action (CTA) in Your Bio

The entire point of being on social media is to build relationships and become memorable. If you want to build deeper relationships you have to ask your audience to take the next step with you. A call to action could be something as simple as “Book your free consultation here ⬇️” or “Grab your Guide to ATX Living here ⬇️” Offering value in exchange for contact information is a great practice that will help you build your email list and take your online relationships offline.

Include Relevant Links in Your Bio

You can do this by creating a hidden page on your website or using a service such as Linktree. Relevant links can include a link to your freebie, a place to book an appointment with you, a link to your website or an event that you’re hosting. The important thing about links is you want to ensure that they are working and relevant at all times. Put a reminder in your calendar to check them on a monthly basis.
Ensure that you have a “Professional” IG account. This will allow you to have a “contact” button on your IG profile where people can click to call and/or email you. This makes it simple for your audience to get in touch with you.

Common Mistakes Agents Make in Their Instagram Bio

In addition to doing the things above, you’ll want to avoid common mistakes agents make in their IG bios:

  1. Using hashtags in your bio (they’re not helping you).

  2. Writing out your phone number (it’s not clickable and no one is jotting it down…trust).

  3. Using REALTOR jargon (we don’t care that you’re a “top producer”…sorry not sorry).

  4. Listing every affiliation (While I can appreciate that you’re well connected, I wouldn’t take valuable real estate (pun intended) to prove yourself. Instead, show us in your content)

Now that you’re equipped with the information you need to give yourself a quick bio glow-up, commit to taking 5-10 minutes to make the updates. Don’t forget to take a before and after screenshot and send it to me @elevatewithcandice.
